Where the island's hire cars are handed over.
The booking system's main Gran Canaria fleet hands over every car at one place: Airport Gran Canaria (LPA). In every window measured for this site, all of its cars used that point. The other bookable cars on the island are delivered to addresses in four southern resorts: San Bartolome de Tirajana, Meloneras, Bahia Feliz and Puerto Rico.
Hire cars are handed over in arrivals. Your voucher names the supplier and carries its meeting instructions. For the return, the fuel station nearest the airport is a Repsol at kilometre 16 of the GC-1, open 24 hours. The GC-1 passes the airport: Las Palmas centre is 25.6 km and 27 minutes north, and Playa del Ingles is 31.1 km and 27 minutes south.

What paperwork turns people away at the handover?
Where a car requires a credit card, it must be a physical embossed credit card in the main driver's name. Some cars accept a debit card, which must also be physical, personalised, embossed and in the same name. Cars that need no card are marked in the search and listed under car hire in Gran Canaria without a credit card.
The licence must be the physical card, valid until at least the last day of the rental, with its details in Latin script. Copies and electronic licences are not accepted. An International Driving Permit is recommended where a licence is valid only in the country that issued it. Minimum driver age and driving experience are set per car, shown on each listing, and the rental agent may refuse the car if the driver does not meet them.

Las Palmas Airport and Gran Canaria Airport are the same place.
The airport's IATA code is LPA and its ICAO code is GCLP. Its official name is Aeropuerto de Gran Canaria. The code comes from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and many bookings call it Las Palmas Airport. It has two runways of 3,100 m each, operates 24 hours a day, and handled 15,826,553 passengers in 2025.
The airport is in the municipalities of Telde and Ingenio, about 19 km south of Las Palmas. By road the city centre is 25.6 km and 27 minutes away, the same drive time as Playa del Ingles in the other direction. The cars booked through car hire for Las Palmas are collected here.
How long is the drive to the south coast?
Routed times for the fastest road. The GC-1, the Autopista del Sur, runs from Las Palmas to Puerto de Mogan and passes the airport. It is designated motorway from the airport southward, and its top speed limit is 120 km/h.
| From the airport to | Distance | Drive |
|---|---|---|
| Bahia Feliz | 24.7 km | 20 min |
| San Agustin | 30.7 km | 26 min |
| Las Palmas | 25.6 km | 27 min |
| Playa del Ingles | 31.1 km | 27 min |

| Puerto Rico | 48.6 km | 39 min |
| Puerto de Mogan | 54.8 km | 45 min |
| Roque Nublo | 50.9 km | 66 min |
Inland, driving from the airport takes longer per kilometre. Roque Nublo is 50.9 km away and takes 66 minutes, while Puerto de Mogan, at 54.8 km, takes 45.

One-way rentals run between the airport and the south-coast delivery point, in both directions. They use the delivery cars, which have been manual, held no deposit and not offered free cancellation. Each direction of one-way car hire in Gran Canaria is a separate search, and a one-way charge, where one applies, is shown on the car before you pay.
Cars can also be delivered to an address in four southern resorts instead of collected here. Those cars and their terms are listed for the resorts on the south coast.
Everything you should know.
Common questions before collecting a car at LPA, answered from the rental conditions and the live fleet.
Is Las Palmas Airport the same as Gran Canaria Airport?
Yes. Its official name is Aeropuerto de Gran Canaria and its code is LPA, taken from Las Palmas. It is in the municipalities of Telde and Ingenio, about 19 km south of Las Palmas. By road the city centre is 25.6 km and 27 minutes from the airport.
Where exactly do I meet the car?
In arrivals at Gran Canaria Airport. Your voucher names your supplier and carries its meeting instructions.
Do I need a credit card?
For some cars. Where a card is required, it must be a physical embossed credit card in the main driver's name. Some suppliers accept a debit card, which must also be physical, personalised, embossed and in the same name. Your voucher states which applies, and cars that need no card are marked in the search.
Is there a mileage limit?
On some cars. Each car's daily mileage allowance is shown on its listing, and some cars are uncapped. From the airport, Puerto de Mogan and back is about 110 km, and a day to Roque Nublo is about 100 km.
What if my flight is late?
The rental conditions require the phone number you provide to be reachable throughout the rental and on the day before pick-up. Your voucher names the supplier and carries its contact details.
Can I drop the car somewhere else?
Yes, between the airport and the south-coast delivery point, in either direction, on the cars that allow it. The search shows which cars allow it on your dates.
