Car hire Gran Canaria no credit card: how the rule works.

The card requirement is attached to each car. Some listings state that a physical embossed credit card in the main driver's name is mandatory. Others require no card.

Minimum age and driving experience are set per car, and the rental agent may refuse the car if the driver does not meet them. The licence rules are the same whether the car is delivered or collected in arrivals at the airport: the physical licence card, valid until the end of the rental, with its details in Latin script.

What does the card requirement say?

Where a card is required, it must be a credit card, physical and embossed, in the name of the main driver. Embossed means the number and name are raised on the plastic. A card held in a phone wallet is not a physical card.

Some suppliers accept a debit card. Where they do, it is stated during booking and on the voucher, and the debit card must also be physical, personalised, embossed and in the main driver's name.
